FINDING A FARMACIA THAT OPENS 24 HOURS A DAY IN TORREVIEJA CALLE RAMON GALLUD (Tel no. 966 706 88) opens 24 hours (Day and Night, all days of the year) However, in most towns Farmacias open out of their usual business hours on a rota system. Details of this rota, which changes monthly, are published in some English language newspapers and also shown on the door of the Farmacia. In an emergency situation, the 'Policia Local' can provide information on the Farmacias open in their locality. WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Do you know what to do in the unfortunate event of a non-injury road traffic accident? As a
driver here in Spain or elsewhere on mainland Europe, you should complete
the blue form called Parte Europeo de Accidente. WHAT DO IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT Which is clearly printed on the front cover of the Parte Europeo de Accidente, is 'DON'T PANIC, BE COURTEOUS, REMAIN CALM'. (Do not admit liability, but complete the form honestly) IF THERE
ARE INJURIES IF THERE IS ONLY MATERIAL DAMAGE 1. Produce
your insurance details and your driving licence and complete the duplicate
form, Parte Europeo de Accidente. It is only necessary for one such
document to be completed, as there is a copy for each driver. HOW TO COMPLETE THE PARTE EUROPEO DE ACCIDENTE AT THE SCENE 1. Use
only one form when there are only two vehicles involved (two forms for
3 vehicles). It is unimportant which driver completes the form. Use
a ballpoint pen and write legibly. AT HOME Complete
the details as required by your insurance company and fill in the 'declaration
of accident' on the reverse of the form. Should the driver of the other vehicle be in possession of a Parte Europeo de Accidente in another language, make sure that the layout of the form is the same as your version. COMPLETING THE PARTE EUROPEO DE ACCIDENTE 1. DATE
of accident. · PLEASE NOTE If you are on holiday in Spain with a European Health Card, this does not cover you for medical treatment following a road traffic accident. Any treatment obtained from the hospital will result in you being issued with a bill, as it is expected that the insurance company will be liable for payment.
PRIVATE & PUBLIC Street Events - the situation There is no requirement to inform police of PRIVATE street events (as opposed to PUBLIC street events for which police permission should be applied for at least 7 days prior to the event so that police can close off the street to traffic). However, if you are planning a street party or Fayre or similar, it would be wise to inform the Police and the Ayuntamiento in advance. This can often circumvent misunderstandings, and the courtesy is also appreciated by the Spanish authorities.
COMMUNICATION
WITH THE AYUNTAMIENTO This is also an English speaking engineer now working in the Town Hall who will be there on a Tuesday and Thursday morning.

Admission to Hospital In Spain IF YOU ARE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN SPAIN, THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF Crucial differences exist between caring for an inpatient in a UK hospital and a Spanish hospital. In the case of admission as an inpatient into the Accident and Emergency department of a Spanish hospital, visiting rights will be limited and the hospital staff will attend to the needs of the patient. However, on admission to a general ward, the 'Duty of Care' is a shared responsibility between the hospital and the patient's carers. Neither side of this partnership will provide the total care. The hospital provides the medical care, including all medication and food. If you do not have any relatives or friends who can assist with your day to day needs and are unable to carry this out yourself, you must employ someone to provide the non medical care and support required. For this purpose a bed or chair is usually provided for those looking after the patient. Therefore, if you are going into hospital or know someone who is about to be admitted, please advise family and friends and ask them if they would be able to become involved. Alternatively, a private nursing or care agency can be contacted and arrangements can be made for one of their staff to sit with a patient during the night if necessary. Fees for this service vary (and often are based on hourly rates). Details
of nursing agencies can be obtained by telephoning the HELP Association
of Vega Baja office on 965 70 4282 or click on the "Useful
Links"page on this web site.
