(BREAK-INS AGAIN!)
Tom (President
of 107-250) has asked us to post the following warning - At Montesol
Villas recently there was a burglary at a house. The burglars
gained entry by removing a grill at the back of the property. It is
reported that the thieves ransacked every room, taking whatever they
fancied, including TV, computer, jewellery and money. This was done
in broad daylight, when the owners had gone to the beach. Of course,
it is now high season for holiday-makers and also for robbers. Please
do take whatever precautions you can to keep your property safe during
this season. If you see suspicious characters hanging around be wary.

(Can
you give blood??)

Alicante, 13th June 2009
Dear European Residents,
Yesterday, June 14th, we celebrated the International Day of Blood
Donation. We should be aware of the importance of giving blood. As
we all know, blood is absolutely necessary. Every minute of every
day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer
donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is
no substitute for your donation.
In the province of Alicante we are in an urgent need of blood , because
the population in our province is constantly growing. It is vital,
that all citizens, independently of their nationality, are aware of
the importance of giving blood, since we can safe lives with a simple
gesture. Giving blood is nowadays the only way to give new blood to
other person in need. Without blood there is no life and we can safe
3 lifes by donating blood. There is no better donation.
Any healthy person between 18 and 65 years old and a body weith over
50kg can give blood.
Shortly we will send you further information about where to go to
donate blood in your town. However, you can call 965.65.81.12 or go

(Non-resident Owners Bank Accounts)
- posted July 31st, 2008.
If you own a property in
Spain, but you are not actually in the country for 180 days or more
in any year, you may find some interesting reading in this forum:
http://www.torrevieja.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=34834
Addendum (August
8th, 2008):
The latest information on this story
is that non-resident homeowners apparently only need to contact their
bank. Mmost banks will sort it out the non-residence certificate at
a cost of approx. 20 euros.

SOME
GOOD ADVICE (from Neighbourhood Watch, Spain)
There
is crime in Spain, as in any other country.
Although the level of opportunistic crime on the Urbanisation had
dropped significantly and is far lower than in the UK, we still need
to be alert and report suspicious activity to the Policia Local. [Tel:
966 721 525].
And
so what can be done?
The best and only practical advice is to be extra vigilant during
the holiday months - roughly from May to October. Here are some habits
you can adopt, whether resident or visitor, which will make it more
difficult for these people:
1)
Never leave windows, doors, blinds and grills open - or unlocked -
when you leave your villa or apartment, even if you are just popping
out to the local supermarket, or to visit a neighbour.
2)
When you are at home, or going to bed, do not leave keys or other
valuables in view through windows. Put them into sideboards, cupboards,
drawers, under the beds; anywhere, just so long as they are out of
sight.
3)
Keep an eye out for suspicious people who appear to be sizing up properties.
They may just be house-hunters; but remember, house-hunters usually
have an agent with them. And they don't look away when they see
you have noticed them!
4)
If you are a visitor (to your own property, or if you are only renting)
make sure you are not observed when you first arrive - whether from
the airport by rental car or by taxi. Your suitcases are a dead give-away
and many of the burglaries reported have occured within the first
3-4 hours of arrival. Why? Because the first thing people do after
arrival is go to the shops to buy the basics for the refrigerator!
Always let just ONE person do the shopping and don't leave the
property unattended for the first few hours.
If
you follow the above advice you could save yourself many frustrating
hours trying to explain what has happened (in Spanish, to a Spanish-speaking
policeman who will not be totally sympathetic!) why you need a
new passport.
